Applicants seeking financial assistance must first seriously investigate other funding sources in order to be eligible for financial aid from the Geneva LL.M. in International Dispute Settlement. Examples of such sources are primarily various dedicated scholarship bodies (government agencies and foundations in the applicants’ home country and in Switzerland). The possibility of obtaining scholarships or special loans from employers should also be considered.

The principal recommendation we make in this regard is to apply well in advance - you should be looking into scholarships at the same time as you are deciding to apply for our program. Many funding bodies do not require that you have a letter of offer from the program directors for you to be considered.

The links below will take you either directly to certain scholarship bodies, or to lists and databases of such scholarship bodies. No list or database that we know of is exhaustive, but the information we provide hopefully is a good start, either to find bodies to apply to, or to understand how the world of graduate scholarships operates. You should then please contact each of the scholarship bodies directly for applications, deadlines and any other information.

Applicants are also encouraged to contact the Swiss embassy or consulate in their home country for further information on Swiss government grants.

It is also possible for students to undertake part-time paid employment in Geneva. Depending on qualifications, students can expect to earn up to a total of CHF 10’000 over the course of the academic year in return for 10-15 hours of work per week. The MIDS Office does not have the resources to arrange for such jobs itself, but the University of Geneva maintains a student employment office, called Le Bureau de placement, which helps out thousands of students each year.
