Ghenet has earned her LLB degree from the University of Asmara back in 2004. Immediately after the conclusion of her diploma level law studies in 1995, she was assigned Public Prosecutor by the Ministry of Justice. She served in this position from October 1997 to August 2000 at which point she decided to return to university for additional studies. After her graduation in 2004, she was again assigned public prosecutor. Due to her mature judgment and high experience Ghenet was promoted to be a judge at the Central Zone Court in Asmara in September 2006. She held this position until October 2007 and adjudicated both criminal and civil law cases.
At university Ghenet studied general law, civil law, criminal law, commercial law, civil and criminal procedural laws, human right, international law, mechanisms for resolving legal dispute, public financial law and other major courses. She presented her thesis entitled "Legal aid and its practical application in Eritrean legal system".
Her work as public prosecutor has enabled Ghenet to develop a sound understanding of the challenges and obstacles faced in the judicial system. Specifically, financial limitations and the lack of knowledge about basic law by prosecuted persons creates impediments in the handling of cases. Consequently, Ghenet focused research in her senior essay on the necessity of legal aid, ways of solving recurrent problems related to the lack of mature and adequate legal aid and suggested possible remedies.
Ghenet worked as public prosecutor for an extended time period and in different parts of her country. During this time she has prosecuted over 10,000 criminal cases ranging from misdemeanors to involuntary manslaughter and rape. She assessed, analyzed, monitored and processed criminal cases, following the cases in courts. She also used to supervise and control prison conditions and treatments exercised by prison houses. In addition, she has trained many young police officers in criminal investigation techniques on a number of occasions.
While she served as a judge in the Central Zone Court, she adjudicated a considerable number of civil and criminal cases. In addition, she was hearing and adjudicating cases that were appealed from the lower or communal courts. In this function she had the opportunity to develop expertise on judiciary techniques and systems relevant to the Eritrean legal system. She was also able to broaden her knowledge and experience on how to manage judicial matters based on the rule of law. The position also allowed her to develop effectiveness in decision making and implementation. During all of her life she has been exercising the rule of law and this has inspired her to deepen her knowledge on how to handle cases and to render fair and effective justice.
