David Guerra Bonifácio graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Portuguese Catholic University (UCP) Law School (Lisbon), having specialized in Corporate and Commercial Law.
Among several academic experiences abroad, David was a visiting student at the University of Vienna Law School and Duke University Law School (USA). David also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in International Trade Law.
Before graduating, David has been a trainee-student at the litigation and arbitration team of one of the biggest portuguese commercial law firms based in Lisbon. David has also had the opportunity to collaborate with the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT), the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) International Court of Arbitration. In 2008, he had a short experience working at the Litigation and Arbitration team of the Zurich branch of a major swiss law firm.
David has been awarded the 2007 "Most Promising Business Lawyer" in Portugal. He has recently passed his first bar exams and is preparing to conclude his final period of training.
His main areas of practice and academic interest are both substantive and procedural: international arbitration, private international law, international commercial law, and international litigation. David has also developed a strong interest in the field of international protection of foreign direct investment (international investment law).
During his stay in Geneva, David will simultaneously be a part-time foreign trainee at Lalive Avocats.
Languages: Portuguese, Spanish, English, French, German and Italian. Basic notions of Dutch and Russian.
