Hering, Isabelle - Switzerland

After graduating from the University of Geneva in 1988, Isabelle Hering was admitted to the Geneva Bar in 1992 and obtained a L.LM in International Business Law from the London School of Economics in 1995. From 1998 until early 2008 she served as legal director of the Temenos group, a company listed at the SWX (Zürich) and specialized in software for financial institutions. Isabelle is a Swiss national, has one child and lives in Prangins (Switzerland). Her hobbies include tap dancing, golfing, skiing, reading and music.

Born in Germany in 1966, Isabelle completed her entire education in Geneva and spent one year in Berlin where she studied German commercial law. After two years of training in a law firm in Geneva, she qualified and started her career in 1993 as legal counsel with the Swiss Post and Telecom in Bern. This first experience enabled her to discover the diversity of legal systems of the French speaking region of Switzerland.

Willing to gain some knowledge and experience in intellectual property law she attended in 1994 the London School of Economics master program in International Business law. This intensive year not only confirmed her wish to practice in the intellectual property law area but gave her the opportunity to get familiar with alternative dispute resolution.

Upon her return she worked with Dr Kamen Troller, a Swiss lawyer specialized in intellectual property law. During two years of practice in Geneva, she gained experience in IP protection and litigation, and provided advice to national and international clients.

Isabelle then joined the Temenos group in Geneva, which at the time employed ca. 200 people worldwide, to hold the new function of legal counsel. In this capacity, she supported any type of legal issues worldwide such as intellectual property, IT, employment, immigration matters and litigation. This also included the creation and consolidation of various agreements and the appropriate protection of Temenos' intellectual property rights in relevant jurisdictions. With the growth of the company (ca. 2700 employees in 2008) and its quotation on the SWX in 2001, Isabelle moved to the position of legal director and her main activities were concentrated on the management of the legal department and the legal affairs. She continued to frequently travel to negotiate IT agreements with financial institutions worldwide. Working for Temenos has been an everyday challenge, a fantastic experience and has given her the enriching opportunity to work with different cultures and nationalities and to learn to deal with tact and sensitivity and quickly adapt to specific environments.

Throughout her studies and her professional career Isabelle always desired to improve her knowledge in ADR. In February 2008 she decided to leave Temenos to take some time off with her family and to participate to this Master program.
