Cristina Viteri Torres has obtained her law degree at "Universidad San Francisco de Quito" in Ecuador, with a minor in International Relations. While she was studying and shortly after graduating from university, she became a legal advisor at the Quito Chamber of Commerce until 2007. Presently, she holds the position of mediator and legal consultant at the Center for Integrated Family in Quito. Cristina has published an article in the journal "Novedades Jurídicas" in which she discusses the subject of Antidumping Measures as Protectionist Instrument or Unlawful Practice.
Her field of study has been concentrated on general law matters, civil law, intellectual property law, criminal law, constitutional law, human rights, administrative law, international law, international commerce law and specifically investment law. In order to obtain her undergraduate degree, Cristina presented her thesis entitled "Delimitation of the Concept of Expropriation Applied to Bilateral Investment Agreements".
As a legal advisor at the Quito Chamber of Commerce, she was responsible for handling legal queries from affiliates. Cristina had the opportunity to collaborate in the elaboration of an unconstitutionality claim regarding the Ecuadorian oil legislation and also worked as the assistant to the principal negotiator of the service table in a Free Trade Agreement. After graduating from University, she collaborated with a program in charge of monitoring International Investment Treaties ratified by Ecuador.
The Center for Integrated Family is a nonprofit foundation dedicated to helping individuals, couples and families find more effective ways to deal with crisis and conflict. It maintains a mediation center which Cristina has helped to establish and promote. This service is in great demand in the city of Quito since the decisions reached are legally binding. As a lawyer and a mediator she has been able to practice in the application of legal theory as well as mediating in subjects related to family matters.
